SEMEX'S IMMUNITY+ MEETING & EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS

New technologies are always coming along that claim a host of benefits. Seldom, however, do such technologies deliver on or surpass their original claims. Immunity+ is a special innovation that does indeed meet or exceed original expectations. And, with a 25% heritability, Immunity+ sires can help improve a herd’s overall health and longevity. Based on the HIR technology developed by Dr. Bonnie Mallard and her colleagues at the University of Guelph, the research surrounding this technology spans decades. It shows that HIR cows have 19-30% lower disease incidence compared to herd averages. These cows also respond better to commercial vaccines and produce higher quality colostrum. As a result, they are more profitable by bringing in more revenue, lowering costs and wasting less of the dairyman’s time. And, most importantly, Immunity+ works. “There is a lot of on-going research in the immune response field, and in each case, the findings further validate the many benefits of Immunity+,” says Jay Shannon, Semex Global Dairy Solutions Manager. “High immune response technology and Immunity+ sires have shown their potential to be one of the most significant innovations in the genetics industry, having a profound effect on a dairy’s strategy to improve overall animal health.” Joining the proven Immunity+ lineup following the December 2014 genetic evaluation are: 0200HO07450    AMIGHETTI NUMERO UNO ... SEMEX HEALTHSMART LINEUP INCLUDES FEED EFFICIENCY

In August 2009, the HealthSmart™ lineup was launched as a means for Semex clients to quickly identify bulls that would sire the most valuable and profitable cows on the dairy. Five years later, the HealthSmart brand still represents sires that provide fertile and healthy daughters, but also more feed efficient cows. “By including Feed Efficiency in HealthSmart, we’re further emphasizing moderate-sized cattle, healthy cattle, efficient cattle and all around good commercial cows,” says Jay Shannon, Semex Global Dairy Solutions Manager. “These cows are the profitable kind. They have more efficient production, lower maintenance costs, lower health costs, better fertility and lead longer, more productive lives. They’re exactly what dairymen are looking for and what we’re talking about when we talk about Genetics for Life.” The HealthSmart lineup includes these popular sires:  0200HO07450  AMIGHETTI NUMERO UNO 0200HO00402  MAINSTREAM MANIFOLD 0200HO03753  MARBRI FACEBOOK 0200HO02698  MISTY SPRINGS SUPERSONIC 0200HO00560  MONUMENT IMPRESSION 0200HO00528  SILDAHL JETT AIR The following Genomax™ bulls are also designated HealthSmart: 0200HO09136    LEADERWIN MUSCADET ... MOGUL x JEEVES 0200HO10198    EDG CONSTABLE ... MOGUL x OBSERVER 0200HO10195    VIEW-HOME LITTLEROCK ... CASHCOIN x ROBUST 0200HO06639    STANTONS PULSAR ... MCCUTCHEN x SUPER 0200HO06587    GILLETTE CAVIAR ... MOGUL x IOTA 0200HO10155    VIEW-HOME UTAH ... DOORMAN x ROBUST 0200HO06551    VIEUXSAULE FLAM ... NUMERO UNO x FREDDIE 0200HO10088    ZAHBULS AVIATOR ... SUPERSIRE x FREDDIE 0200HO06589    JEANLU FIX ... MOGUL x ... Semex Dominates The Royal

As one of the dairy industry’s ‘must attend’ events, the 92nd Royal Agricultural Winter Fair was one for the record books for Semex. Very similar to 2013, a commanding 57% of all Holsteins shown by 27 different sires were 200HO sired! Impressively, even more Semex-sired daughters placed in the top 10 in their classes in 2014 than 2013, with 97 receiving a ribbon. Forty-six placed in the top five, 12 won their classes and Semex sired eight champions. Like no other sire ever, Braedale Goldwyn continued his show ring dominance, capturing both Premier Sire Banners, and sired nine class winners, 49 top 10 placers and the DHI Production Award Winner. And, for the fifth consecutive year a he sired the Grand & Senior Champion Female as 1st Mature Cow, RF Goldwyn Hailey, continued her winning streak, capturing the traditional blanket of roses at the end of the day.    Semex Genomax™ sires made their mark at the Royal as well. Making his Royal debut, Genomax™ and Immunity+™ sensation 0200HO06480 Val-Bisson Doorman sired the 1st Intermediate Calf & HM Junior Champion, Belfast Doorman Lovestruck. Placing 2nd in the same class was Repa Jenna Doorman, with seven other Doormans showing in the young heifer classes, gaining appreciation for Semex top seller. December 2014 proven sire prospect, 0200HO02770 Sully Hart Meridian’s daughter Val-Bisson Meridian Doriane (a sister to Doorman himself) attracted a lot of attention in her stall at the Semex Walk of Fame and placed 3rd in the highly competitive Milking Yearling Class. Once again the Canadian National Jersey show showcased 200JE sires, as Semex sires stamped their daughters with the show-winning look, including Bridon Comerica, sire of the 2014 Reserve Grand Champion & 2nd Mature Cow, Random Luck Ray Helen. Other winnings include: Select Scott Minister: HM Junior Champion & 1st Sr Calf: Shadowvale Minister Sharlene Bridon Comerica: 2nd Mature Cow, Res Senior Champ & Res Grand Champion: Random Luck Ray Helen 2nd ... SEMEX OPENS NEW BULL FACILITY FOCUSING ON YOUNG SIRE CARE

Semex is pleased to announce the opening of a new bull isolation facility in Brockville, Ontario.

With capacity of housing 230 young bulls and the goal of providing individual care to valuable young sires, this new facility will serve as an entry point for all bulls coming into stud.

“Traditional isolation facilities are generally at or very near production facilities. We chose to place this facility in a central location,” says Robert McRae, Semex Chief Operating Officer. “This ensures we have fulltime, dedicated staff that will ensure the best care and testing of these young bulls. And, we want to reduce any biosecurity risks at our production facilities, so having this facility at a separate location makes perfect sense.”

In the fast-paced genomic era, minimizing risk is just one goal of this new state-of-the-art facility. Semex is also working hard to get its valuable young sires into production sooner, impacting both Semex’s genetic suppliers and its clients.

“We plan to be able to bring bulls into testing sooner and get them moving towards production even faster,” says Brad Sayles, Semex Vice President Global Marketing. “We’re doing everything to not only control this period in a bull’s life, but to also emphasize individualized care. Our end goal is to continue providing our clients worldwide with the best genomic young sires and proven sires in the world. This facility underscores our commitment to our clients, our genetic suppliers and our EastGen member owners in eastern Ontario that have been longtime partners in our success.”

“Our research and studies show that this is an extremely important part of a bull’s life,” says Sayles. “Working to supply our clients with young sire semen sooner is key to not only our success, but their success as well. Our facilities are the best in the business and this new facility certainly puts us ahead of ... Read More...

Semex Dominates 2014 World Dairy Expo

The world’s undeniable ‘King of the Ring,’ Braedale Goldwyn, captured World Dairy Expo’s Premier Holstein Sire banner for a record seventh year (dating back to 2008 when he was one of the youngest and highest ranking TPI sires to ever win the award). With a career that strengthens as the years go by, he sired 33 daughters in the top 10 and 21 in the top of five placings in their classes. This included five class winners, and for the fourth year in a row, he sired the Grand Champion Female. Two-time World Dairy Expo Grand Champion RF Goldwyn Hailey stole the show once again, topping her Aged Cow Class and parading to champion honours. Flanking Hailey were two other Goldwyn daughters, 1st 5 Yr Old, Lovhill Godlwyn Katrysha, who was named Res. Grand Champion and Jacobs Goldwyn Valana, 2nd 5 Yr Old and Best Bred & Owned of the Show, was named Honourable Mention. Semex’s lineup of Show Time™ sires went beyond Goldwyn, with 27 different Semex sires on display, 78 daughters placing in the top 10, 10 class winners, six Best Udder in class awards and seven of the top 10 placings in the four milking classes! Semex Immunity+ Daughters On Display At World Dairy Expo

On the heels of an award-winning 2013 and with record worldwide sales since its release, Semex is proud present daughters of Immunity+™ sires at this year’s World Dairy Expo (WDE) in its Semex Tent.

Using a patented technology, Semex measures an animal’s immune response and their ability to combat infection and disease. These animals are considered High Immune Responders (HIR) and at Semex they’re known as Immunity+ bulls.

“Dairymen are looking for long-term solutions to herd health,” says Brad Sayles, Semex Vice President Global Marketing. “With Immunity+ sires, dairymen can now ask how well a bull’s daughters respond to infection instead of how often they get diseases like mastitis. It changes the conversation from result-oriented measurements with heritabilities of less than 10%, to immune response that is highly heritable at 25%. We’re excited to share the future of herd health with dairymen this year at World Dairy Expo.”

On display will be daughters of popular Immunity+ sires including:
